How to Select Poly Aluminium Chloride for Water Treatment

Poly aluminium chloride selection should connect a clearly named product to the buyer's water, treatment objective and approval rules. A specification comparison and a controlled jar or pilot test are more useful than choosing PAC by a broad grade label alone.

Use the full product name and define the intended use

Write out poly aluminium chloride in the inquiry because PAC is used for more than one term in industry. Poly aluminium chloride, polyaluminium chloride and the American spelling poly aluminum chloride commonly refer to the same product family, but spelling does not define a grade. Use one full name in the approved specification and record PAC as an alias where helpful.

Describe the treatment context before asking a supplier to recommend an option. State whether the inquiry concerns drinking water, municipal or industrial wastewater, process water, paper production or another defined use. Identify the treatment objective and the local standard or internal rule that governs approval. A product considered for one application should not be presented as universally suitable for another.

Start with water data and the treatment objective

Share representative water-analysis information rather than only naming the industry. Useful data may include pH, turbidity, temperature, organic load, suspended solids, alkalinity and the variability that the plant sees over time, when those factors are relevant to the process. Mark whether the data comes from raw water, an intermediate stream or the point where the coagulant will be applied.

Define what successful treatment means for your site: clarification, contaminant reduction, downstream filtration support, sludge handling or another measurable objective. Also describe the existing dosing and mixing arrangement and any chemicals used before or after coagulation. This context lets both parties design a meaningful test; it should not be treated as a supplier guarantee of performance under changing plant conditions.

Align Al2O3, basicity and insoluble matter on one basis

Compare specifications line by line. Important fields often include product form and appearance, Al2O3 content, basicity, insoluble matter and solution pH. Iron, heavy metals or other parameters may also be relevant where the application or governing standard calls for them. The correct limits must come from the buyer's process and applicable requirements, not from a generic online table.

Confirm the reporting basis, units and test method for every controlling parameter. For example, an Al2O3 result cannot be compared fairly if documents use different product or solids bases, and a basicity value needs the same definition on both sides. Distinguish guaranteed release limits from typical values, then make sure the agreed parameters appear consistently in the specification and the batch COA.

Confirm performance with a jar or pilot test

Documented chemical parameters help screen a product, but they do not by themselves predict behavior in a particular water system. Run a controlled jar test or pilot evaluation using representative water and the site's actual operating constraints. Record the sample identity, water conditions, preparation method, dose range, mixing sequence, settling time and the treatment measurements selected by your technical team.

Compare more than one operating point and, where practical, water from more than one representative condition. Observe the treatment result together with settling, sludge behavior, filtration impact and any downstream effect important to the site. Keep the test conclusion specific to the evaluated sample and conditions; scale-up and routine operation still require the buyer's process control and validation.

Close the documents, packaging and destination review

Before approval, request the current specification, representative COA, SDS/MSDS and any supporting document required for the stated application. Check the product name, grade, issuing entity, version, validity and exact scope. Drinking-water or regulated uses need review against the applicable destination requirements; a general product statement is not evidence of universal market approval.

Tell the supplier the required product form, quantity and unit, requested packaging or supply format, destination country and port, storage constraints and delivery-site restrictions. Ask the supplier to confirm what is available and compatible rather than assuming a format from another offer. Align route feasibility, document needs and any inspection step before quotation or order so the technical selection can become a workable supply plan.
